Will Someone Please Unplug Sarah Palin?
I've already told you that I'm a fiscal and political conservative. For the record, that doesn't necessarily mean I'm a Republican. Oh, I assure you that I was proud to vote for Ronald Reagan. Heck, I'd probably vote for him again - even though he's been dead for several years. But each one who followed him got a little harder to support.
So who is the conservative standard bearer now? Who is bringing conservative ideas to the forefront? Please tell me it's not Sarah Palin! In my opinion, she's set the conservative point of view back by decades. Please tell me there is someone waiting in the wings who can present a reasonable argument for smaller government, less government spending, and lower taxes. Anyone? Is Spiro Agnew still around?
I'm listening to the debate on healthcare reform. I'm not sure the Obama plan is the right one, but I certainly haven't heard any conservatives - Democrat or Republican - offer any substantive alternative. Maybe there aren't any. I'll give him credit - at least he's trying to do something. His plan may not be the answer, but I'm convinced we can't just keep doing what we're doing ad infinitum. So does anyone else have any ideas? I haven't heard the Republicans do anything except throw rocks at Obama's plan. So if you don't like it, give us something else to consider!
Several months ago I wrote a piece about the shortage of common sense. If you need any proof of that, just look at Congress. Have you ever seen a more inept bunch of people in your life? Did you see the bit on the private jets? It seems our brilliant elected officials - the same people who chastised the auto execs for flying to Washington on private jets - are trying to order some of their own. They need something that will go all the way to Dubai without having to stop and refuel. Here's a thought - stay here and fix the healthcare mess! Then work on immigration. After that, there's highways, bridges, and other infrastructure. After that........well, you get my drift.
So the bottom line for me is this - I need to find a politician out there somewhere who will support conservative values, can carry on an intelligent conversation, doesn't embarrass us, and offers reasonable alternatives to tax-and-spend liberals. Oh, and he can't have a girlfriend in Argentina, either. Well........? OK, I'll settle for 3 out of 5!
Till next time.........
