- I will try very hard not to make this one of those Christmastime letters detailing everything that has happened to me and my family over the last year. I really dislike those things. First of all, if we're close enough for you to send me one of those things, I probably know all that stuff already. And if we're not close enough, I don't really care. I'd prefer this blog to be observations and comments rather than a diary of my every move.
- My views and opinions will likely be to the right of center because that's where I am in most areas of my life. I believe I am a fairly typical SWM - Southern White Male - somewhere between redneck and Billy Graham. If that offends you, I guess that means I won't be in your "favorites".
- I will not use words like "amazing", "awesome", or "no problem". And I'm definitely not worried about "zen", "feng shui", or "ch'i". More about that at a later date.
- I dislike phrases like "dependence on foreign oil", "green initiatives", "Wall Street to Main Street", or "reaching across the aisle" and won't be using them unless absolutely necessary. Enough already!
- I don't know how often I will post something, but if I don't have anything to say, I won't.
- Your feedback and comments are appreciated. While I may not agree with you, I would like to hear your thoughts. I'd like to consider your opinion like I would consider your dog - without having to worry about taking it home with me.
- If I use some terms you don't understand, feel free to ask the meaning. If you're not from the South or the country, I wouldn't expect you to know what "don't worry about the mule going blind, just load the wagon" means.
- If you are offended by anything I say or any opinion I hold, please understand that it was unintentional. That doesn't mean you won't be offended again, it just means I didn't set out to offend you. If you are regularly offended, I'd suggest you look somewhere else. No sense punishing yourself.
- My Christian faith is important to me and I'm not very tolerant of other religions or viewpoints. You may consider that a fault. I try very hard to make sure my personal doctrine is scripturally based. Once I've done that, I'm pretty slow to change.
- Finally, my overwhelming belief is that what we're lacking in this world - and particularly in our society - is common sense. While common sense is a misnomer because it really isn't that "common" anymore, it certainly is lacking. What other reason can you give for putting a sign that says "Braille Menu's Available Upon Request" in the drive-thru window at McDonald's? Go figure!
Now here's one to ponder.....
Why were the CEO's of the automakers chastised for flying to Washington in their private jets to ask for money, yet it's ok for the President to fly to Denver just to sign a stimulus bill that was already on his desk in Washington? I rest my case on the common sense issue!
We'll talk again when the spirit moves.
