A city councilman in Nashville has introduced a bill that would make it unlawful for anyone to wear their pants so low that their underwear shows. This would apply to women and men alike (thank goodness). Now the first question might be "Why would it be necessary to enact a law to keep your pants up?" You'd think most people would WANT to keep their pants up, wouldn't you? Nay, nay! This has caused quite a stir among some.
Those opposed say this amounts to racial profiling. Racial profiling? Are you kidding?! How so? I didn't realize idiots were specific to any particular race. Why I've seen black, white, and brown, none of whom had the good sense to pull their pants up - so how could it be racial profiling? These are usually the same individuals who don't seem to understand that the purpose of the bill of a cap is to keep the sun out of your eyes, not the back of your neck, your ears, or somewhere in between.
FYI, I've been told the proper term is "sagging". Now that's scary, given that I've heard our current economic condition described as a "sagging economy". Don't look, Ethel!!
Anyway, what we have here is not racial or ethnic - it is stupidity, pure and simple. And, as we all know, you can't legislate stupidity out of anyone. I have always found that if someone is bound and determined to do something stupid, there's not much you can do to stop them. Well, at least chasing them down to give them the ticket shouldn't be that difficult. On the other hand, if this thing passes, you won't be able to find a plumber anywhere in town!
Till next time....
